A slight change of scenery from Weymouth, our Captain Ben Harris, was based in Cowes, Isle of Wight at the Royal Yacht Squadron directing Live Event TV for Cowes Week.
Cowes Week is a famous international regatta dating back to 1826 and held in early August every year. 1,000 boats in forty different handicap classes race every day for eight days. 8,500 competitors participate, world class yachtsmen, local sailors, Olympians and the Royal family all join in to a festival atmosphere which attracts over 100,000 visitors to Cowes.
Ben said “This week has seen some fantastic racing in a variety of conditions, with Foncia, a MOD 70 trimaran smashing the record for sailing around the Isle of Wight in just 2 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds. Friday we had the Olympic GBR team meeting the crowds on the parade and all the classes finishing the days racing on the water in the next few hours. The atmosphere was great on the parade, and on the water Sunseekers and Fairlines, some of which have been sold by JD Yachts are mooring up to buoys spectating the races and also waiting for the huge fireworks display this evening”.
